Our Movement
Our movement brings together partners from different sectors and local ecosystems, united by a simple starting point: What matters to you?
From there, lived experience becomes shared learning — connecting people, practice and policy in ways that help shape better support, stronger communities and more informed systems.
This is how SIGNAL grows: by learning, sharing and building change from the ground up.
Transforming Lives, Communities, and Systems — through Agency.
Depth, trust and local ownership (Scaling In)
Every SIGNAL partnership begins with people.
Life Mapping creates structured space for individuals and communities to reflect on what matters and take practical steps forward. This work is relational and sustained over time.
In practice, this means:
• Building trust before expanding reach
• Supporting people to define their own progress
• Strengthening local ownership of change
• Embedding dignity and agency in practice
Depth comes first. This is where meaningful insight begins.
Shared insight shaping better responses (Scaling Out)
As Life Maps and stories build over time, they generate human-centred insight.
When insight is reflected on collectively, patterns become visible. These help organisations and decision-makers understand:
• What people say matters most
• Where barriers persist
• Where strengths already exist
• What is working in practice
Scaling Out happens as learning travels outward through shared reflection, partnerships and practice
Learning in Action
Across the movement, partners are using SIGNAL in different settings and learning through practice what helps people move forward.
This learning grows through real conversations, action and shared reflection.
Across the UK and Ireland, partners are:
- Using Life Mapping in a wide range of contexts
- Supporting people to reflect, prioritise and take action
- Holding data reflection workshops and shared learning sessions
- Using insight to strengthen support, services and wider thinking
While each setting is different, the starting point is the same: beginning with what matters and building from real experience.
Stories from practice
The following stories illustrate lived experience and how individuals, practitioners and organisations are using SIGNAL in real settings.
From early conversations and personal turning points to wider changes in practice, each story offers a different view of what can happen when people start with what matters.
